Generations Stong, and Growing! In 51 years of business Bobby Chain has seen a lot—and contributed even more. During his tenure as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Chain Electric Company, he has not only grown a multi-million company, he has served as Mayor of Hattiesburg, has held two Presidential Appointments, served twelve years on the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board (State College Board) and was president, was a founder of a national bank, served as a thirty-year director of the largest bank in Mississippi, and spearheaded numerous academic and community service projects. He currently serves as a director of the Federal Home Loan Bank by White House appointment. He is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Building Construction Technology. With all of his accomplishments, Bobby Chain is most proud of the legacy of Chain Electric. It is a legacy he shares with his late father, Lee Chain, and a legacy that spans to another generation where his sons Bob and John now serve in leadership roles within the company. A man of remarkable vision and tenacity, he began his company in 1955 with a meager $2,200 he had saved over a five-year period. With $600 of that money he invested in a used 1950 Chevrolet truck. Always cognizant of his beginnings, that ’50 Chevy is still in his company fleet…completely restored! The phenomenal growth and rich history of Chain Electric is only eclipsed by the extraordinary pace at which it is presently moving forward. Chain Electric is one of the fastest growing commercial, industrial, and utility contractors in the south. It maintains crews stationed in five southern states, and a restoration response area of nearly twenty states. Chain, an astute businessman and proud father, credits much of the present growth to sons, Bob Chain, who serves as President of Chain Electric, and John, who is the company’s Executive Vice President. “Bob and John worked their way up to their current positions,” explained Chain. They both did a four-year apprenticeship as electricians while in high school and college, then worked as foremen before starting their management careers.” As President of Chain Electric, Bob Chain coordinates many tasks. In addition to overseeing the daily activities of the company and its more than 200 employees, he manages and assists in estimating all commercial and industrial projects and many underground utility projects. He also supervises bidding for all utility and Department of Transportation projects, as well as management of all commercial and industrial projects. Bob is responsible for supervision of accounting and all office functions. John Chain, in his role as Executive Vice President, oversees crews on job sites in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida, and often in other states for storm-related work. He is responsible for the company safety program and coordinates activities for the fleet manager, who handles the purchasing of Chain’s fleet of trucks, equipment and tools. He also assigns key personnel to specific jobs in management. Bobby, Bob, and John—the three strong links of the success story that is Chain Electric! |
